I may or may not be able to make it. Will depend on when I can get out of the theater. If not, have lotsa fun without me!

Camille, mine grew really well out in the orchid room which is very warm. I've moved it into the big tank which is more intermediate and it's doing okay but hasn't done anything spectacular. I know Ross grows his in one of the tanks and it does well. We can discuss it further...but if we go according to the numbers, it doesn't work for us.

Let's bounce it around a bit more

Default I heard from J&L today!

They sent a list of two plants but neither of them will work for us. One has possibilities but I don't see it available in Canada

I wrote back asking for their list of species intermediate Masdies that they have a large quantity of.

For those interested, the first plant they suggested is:

Osmoglossum pulchellum
IOSPE PHOTOS

I fell in love with this one but it grows to 18" and it likes temps of 72 days and 56-57 nights so that doesn't work for the project. I didn't check availability on it.

The other is:

Encyclia bractescens
IOSPE PHOTOS

This one grows to 14" and likes temps of 85-87 days and 68-69 nights...but can grow in conditions a few degrees warmer or up to 6-8 degrees cooler. This one has possibilities (14" isn't that far away from 12" ) but I don't see it available in Canada.

We will be working from the list provided by Joann and I'm adding in the Phal parishii.

Once I receive the Masdie list from J&L, I'll post all that info in the thread and we can decide what we want to do next

See you later...8pm EST

Okay, so it doesn't look like this one will be added to the list. We'll make a final decision tonight in chat.

J&L sent me the names of two Masdies...

Masd tovarensis, which we've already discussed. It fits the criteria but didn't get a great response during the first chat so I didn't put it on the list.

To give us one more choice for the project, I'm putting it on the tentative list in green.

Masdevallia tovarensis
http://www.orchidspecies.com/mastovarensis.htm

Size: 7"

Temps: 71-73 days, 54-55 nights
Can be grown 6-8 degrees cooler but not much warmer...although it does bloom in intermediate conditions.

Available in EU, CAN and U.S.

and

Masd herradurae
http://www.orchidspecies.com/masherradurae.htm

Size: 3-5.5"

Temps: 80-84 days, 58-61 nights
Can adapt to 6-8 degrees warmer than shown

I won't be able to make as I have previous commitments. I will be watching all the posts though, and look forward to hearing what goes down.
