Lightbulb HELP!

Just got mine (venustum) tonight with a buddy phrag. Penn.s Creek. What an AWESOME plant. Parkside Orchids are Awesome! What a packing job! Penn's Creek is huge with three buds! I am having a panic attack because this is the first one I have ever owned after growing Cats,Dens and Phals forabout 17 years! Well you all are making me broaden my horizens! Please pray for me so I do not kill it. Any advice on how to grow these in central Florida will be much appreciated! I am getting another Venustum from EFG orchids at the Volusia show(Mother's Day) and hope since they live on the other end of town that they will have some good advice.

Hi Lyn
I keep my paphs rather shaded, a little less light than my phals...but I am not an expert on these things...not at all!
We'll learn from each other as we go along...it'll be great fun

You will love dealing with the guys from EFG...very nice and extremely helpful. Enjoy

Thumbs up Great to hear from you!

Hi Susanne! I wondered if you use distilled water and put them in water bowls like I read in one article? They say that you have to be careful with well water(too many minerals) because they usually grow by streams and get rainwater runoff and actually some submerge thier roots in the streams! I know I am stressing out but these plants are just SO awesome I want to be a good Mom to my new chids! GREAT to hear from you! Lyn

I use only rainwater (or RO if the barrel's empty and there's no rain in sight

Lyn, glad to see you where able to get one from Parkside.

Mine arrived today (had issues with DHL ), but the plants were in great condition!

Mine came with a traveling companion, a Paph Sunshine Glory 'alba' x Paph niveum. IN SPIKE

This is exciting.

I have three mottled leaf paphs that have been in serious trouble. They were purchased from ANTEC, bloomed shortly after they got here, but since then it's been a long slow painful decline so I'm really looking forward to learning how to grow these. Is well water really an issue? That's what mine have been watered with. Never gave that a thought.

How quickly does venustum grow? I mean how many cm/inches the single leaf should increase for during the given period of time? I suspect that my venustum is too slow.

Ahh, can't expect it to grow already!! I have no clue what the growth rate is. Just that you should expect to see some difference after a month.

Thumbs up Thank You All!

Lin,Thank you so much for giving me the info about Parkside! I just read well water can have too many minerals. Susanne B. uses rainwater and RO and look at how awesome her plants are! I am going to talk to the people at EFG orchids at the Volusia show and see what I can find out. I hope we can all make our plants look like the specimen plant I saw at the Daytona Show. It really inspired me along with you guys or I would have never tried Paphs.!
