Hello to all! I,m a newer member from buffalo ny! Hey this seems like a great idea, im down! how about a epidendrum porpax. it,s quite common and can grow at different culture requirements!
If not i,ll go along with any orchid, As long as it,s small growth habit will fit im my mini greenhhouses in my living room. Clayton |

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll add them to the vendor list and I'm adding you to the participant list. I need to know where you are located :) I've moved your entry about joining us to this forum so it doesn't get lost in the older project's thread. Glad to have you with us! :cheer: |
Hello, Clay here, As far as a new vendor how about marlows orchids. But I do favor oak hill cause of their healthy plants. I live near buffalo NY. I,ll go along with whatever is picked. It really should be a mini cause of my limited growing space! Plus im a species nut, propragate the species, heck with the hybrids!

Clay, you'll be involved in whatever choice is made. We used Oak Hill Gardens as the vendor in Project #2 and we were all thrilled with the plants we got! Their merchandise is wonderful! Lots of people here have space issues, so we don't usually discuss anything that has the potential to become huge. Both of our previous projects resulted in a species plant. I tend to veer towards species too, but I wouldn't be opposed to a nice hybrid :) We'll whittle it down to a manageable list, then set up a poll...the plant that gets the most votes at the end is our project plant!!!
It'll be fun, you'll enjoy the process :) |
I'd like to take part as well. What info do you need?
Lin |
Great, Lin!
I'm adding you to the list...I don't need any further info :D I have the frist "chat" scheduled for Sun 1/14 at 8pm. This will be the first of many so if somebody can't make that one, it's okay...just try to stop in after that and get your ideas into the discussion :) Remember: 1 - Intermediate 2 - Nothing too large, many members are dealing with space issues 3 - Our first two projects were geared towards a species plant...we should broaden our horizons and think about some of the wonderful hybrids out there :) 4 - We will also be trying to pick a plant that our non-USA members have an opportunity to get in their home countries. 5 - In the past, one of the "rules" (for lack of a better word) was that the plant chosen had to be one that none of the participants already had. That becomes the biggest hinderance, so I am thinking that we should try to aim for that goal but not eliminate any plant for that reason. How do the rest of you feel about that? :scratchhead: I'm looking forward to getting this started...my list is already in the double-digits! I suggest you put together a large list of "wants" because many get elimiinated, for one reason or another and you'll want to have back-up choices. What I do is create a folder in my Favorites and keep links to the plants I'll be suggesting in that folder. When we're having our discussions, it's easy to cut and paste a link to the page so the others have easy access to it. Once we start, I'll be running a closed thread tracking which plants are being discussed. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: See you all there! |
Add me to the list Sue. Im jumping in feet first. And count on me for any help on planning.
|
Thanks Tin...it wouldn't be the same without ya! ;)
|
TerrynFlorida would like to participate in this project. Sounds like fun!
|
 Cool!
I'm adding you to the list... discussions start in less than two weeks! |
Here is a nice vendor for your project.
Hi Sue,
I am not too sure that I can join in on this project.:_( But i can recommend a very reputable internet retailer: Check them out. <this ain't no slug! Mountain Orchids |
Nice online store! Im gonna spend some time there soon.
|
I've bought from Mountain Orchids in the past and have been happy with them.
Marie |
ohhh count me in! ryan in pennsylvania. :D
|
Hey Ryan, nice to see you still come bye.
|
tman, thanks for the suggestion, I'm adding them to the tentative vendor list...
we'd love to have you join us, just let me know :D and by the way, I caught that banana slug reference! May I just say... YUCK!!! Marie, thanks for the thumbs up! :D and Ryan...you're in! |
I'm in, I thought I was originally, but didn't see my name on the list, so count me in. And I'm still rooting for the flask/seedling project to go through, or did it get changed? And a slipper would be fun!
|
Hi Erin, I'll add you to the project list :D
The long-term flask project is still on. Tony has a thread posted to vote in a poll. Look for: Candidates for the long term project in the Contests & Polls forum. I'd give you the link but since I already voted, the sytem would pick up on that info and not allow you to vote...you'll have to look for it...sorry :( |
Thanks Sue! OK now I got it there are 2 different projects going on, whew I thought the long term one got canned! I'll get to have fun in both now, hee hee.
|
I`m in too ! Claude from Montreal, Canada ! Paramount orchids is a great choice !
Phalguy |
:D Hi Claude :D
You're # 12 in our list of 27 participants! |
Im in as a hobbiest but won't have plants as a vendor. We're growing but we're not there yet. I've focused more on supplies then plants so far.
|
Christina, someday our Canadian members will be able to choose you as a project vendor!
:cheer: |
Sue, I have bought from Christina in the past, and the cites permits are well worth the effort! The plants the ORchid Shop have are top notch! Even I would switch teams and play on the Canadian front to get the chance to buy from Christina and Kris.
|
For this project, Christina would like to be a participant, not a vendor.
I would love to make a purchase from The Orchid Shop...let's keep it in mind for a future project :D I love the idea of using a board sponsor for any project that we put together...we should make an effort to do that :D |

Yes, thats what I ment :blushing: |
I find the project quite interesting. But...as i live in France i don't see how i can participate. I mean if we Europeans have to buy the orchid to a vendor in the states (and they seldom ship to Europe) we will have to pay for cites etc...the plants can take some time to come and be a bit weak after shipping and longer to get accostumed to its new condition of growing, cliamate etc...
But i will love to participate if you can find a way! |
Louise this is a really old thread. Here's the current project thread. We are checking availability in the US, Canada and the EU. I think Camille is looking into what vendor in the EU will be used depending of couse on what plant we select. There will be a chat tonight to continue disussing possible plants. If you're interested in joining the project post to this thread. I think today is the last day to join.
