Maybe he gets moved into the big tank too!
Thanks for the tip, Yvan!

When you say that you give more light to the intermediate plant, do you know roughly how many fc it's getting? I suspect that mine is getting nowhere near enough light, which would explain the complete lack of growth!

It's hard to say for sure, since my stupid light meter taps out at 2000fc (It was given to me, and delayed me from buying a good one). It is under the clear plastic section of my shadehouse, which catches the sunlight at about a 45 degree angle this time of year. If I had to guess, I would say around 4000, maybe more. I know it seems to be enough to give the plant a little bit of a suntan, and it seems to like it....it's enough light to bloom a Vanda! If you hold your hand in front of it, you can definitely see the shadow, no hard lines though. Also, upon closer inspection, I noticed that mine too is pushing out a second spike . Here's some pics:

Thanks Jasen...I'll be moving mine to a higher location in my shade house tomorrow.
By the way...that's a nice growing area you've got there!

Thanks Dave, I just built it about six weeks ago. I still have a small section that isn't finished, and still need rocks for the floor, but I will post pics when I finish the whole thing. My Vandas really like their new house, just about all of them reacted with a spike, or two. Also, I remember talking to you about the Euanthe sanderianas....well, the alba is going to open it's blooms any day, and I finally noticed a spike on the "type" sanderiana. I will be sure to dig your thread back up!

If the intermediate really needs that much light to bloom, then there is no way I can keep it, it will never bloom for me. I can give it high fc in the summer when it's sunny, but fall to spring it's getting about 1000fc says my camera guesstimate, on the good days! Looks like I might have to give this one away to someone with enough light.

I don't think there are very many orchids that will bloom under 1000fc. You may have to add a little supplemental light.

My pleasure, Sue...Tho, I can't say it with 100% certainty. Just seems like a possibility given the amount of action it has put on for me in those conditions. You'll have to update us on if that starts working for you.

I just checked both my mystery plants. The intermediate is continuing to develop it's 3 spikes. 2 of the spikes have visible buds and one bud looks like it may be close to opening but who knows with these guys! The warm plant is sending out 4 new growths and loads of new roots. The next bloom cycle should be a grand one.
