Default Could this be a spike?

I haven't paid much attention to this little plant for a week or so. Have checked to see if it needed water and noticed a new leaf emerging but this a.m. it was "what is that".
Do you think this is a spike? It is only about 1/8" long, the close up makes it look so much larger.

Here's an update on my Warm project plant...I'd mentioned the beginnings of a spike on 9/18/08. Here's the spike as of today:

As promised, I will NOT post photos of it when it blooms.
