What about light levels? How can this be figured in to the mix?
Humidity needs? Is there a need to consider this because of difference between greenhouse people and windowsill people. (well, not people, plants obviously)
Will humidity be an issue? Just because a plant is selected from "warm" or "cool" doesn't mean (to me) that humidity requirements aren't an issue.
Maybe you can start to see my reservations for this type of project. There are too many variables to deal with (as we all know) with growing orchids. In a perfect world, one could say place a set of 5 different orchids on a table, all with the same humidity needs, all the same light needs, all the same watering needs, all the same temperature needs, but different genera - and I'll say "Good luck"! Unless they are closely related hybrids - which I think was ruled out early on.

Ross, I don't think this project is cut out for you.
You're welcome to join us but half the fun is figuring it out along the way. This is not an exact science and we can't pick apart every single aspect of what might or might not happen Maybe the next project will be more your cup of tea.

Count me in too! I really had to think about this one because I am seriously out of room! But this project looks like too much fun to pass up!
Ross, I think I know what you are saying about light and humidity. But I was thinking that you could join in and if the final plants that are selected are not suitable to your conditions you could bow out then. Just a thought! Maybe the final 10 plants will all have pretty similar light and humidity requirements so it won't even be an issue. It can't hurt to just stick around and see how everything plays out.

Oh! I'm sticking around and following this discussion. I know from experience, I could join at last minute. I just can't afford to purchase something way out of my league right now. Hope all understand. I really want into the fun, but I need to restrict things a bit because of my cultural situations and what I can provide.

Yeah, I think I should be doing that too! I kept going back and forth about it in my head. I keep saying this but I think that this project orchid will be my last orchid for awhile. I have to start restraining myself! My boyfriend will eventually get sick of it and kick me out. Then I'll be sitting on a curb somewhere with all my orchids and ALL my animals. What a scary thought (and sight)!
