Couldn't have said it better, Sue! The big WIN in each of the OB projects I have participated in is the fun of sharing with other OB members, and the knowledge gained of a new type of orchid! If it weren't for these projects, my collection would be the same old varieties I was used to growing. These projects have really expanded my orchid growing, and I've fallen in love with whole new types of orchids that I wouldn't even have considered growing before. That's the biggest WIN for me!

And you are SO RIGHT about Gwen! She really is an unstoppable force with contageous enthusiasm and is just one of the greatest people I know. This project wouldn't have ever happened if it weren't for her!

to Gwen!!

And let's not forget to Marty and Sue and our moderators - OB wouldn't be the great place that it is without you guys!

And another special to Glenn at New World Orchids and Vic at Erin Pottery for their generosity with discounts as well as donating such awesome prizes!

And last, but by no means least, thanks to everyone who is participating in the project! Its really all of you guys who make the project so fun. for all of the update photos and the discussions and the links and the learning!

I can't wait to see everyone's final photographs!!

Thanks so much Sue and Shannan!!!!! *love you guys*

We're on our way now. . .and the countdown begins!

You guys are the best and I absolutely love sharing this orchid obsession and continue to learn so much from you ALL. I love this place that Marty built! And that Sue and Dorthy protect! I think it's taken on a life of its own and keeps building and building. . .getting better all the time. I send my thanks to you all. You are what makes this place so great!

About the prizes:

I just lucked on to finding the best, most generous people, Glenn at New World Orchids and Vic at Erin Pottery. They are just a match made in Orchid Board Heaven, as far as I am concerned!

New World Orchids is the top name in Neofinetia hybrids in the US and abroad! His frequent buying trips to Japan has created an ever changing, awesome blossom collection! He brings back to our market, Neofinetia's in every leaf shape, color and exotic form. . .from large and robust to very small and delicate.

In my correspondence with Glenn, I have found him to be just the nicest, most professional and generous man! We are lucky to have found him and to have added him to our list of friends! We send him our highest regards and great thanks!

Erin Pottery represents the best that the bonsai pottery market has to offer! I just about passed out when I first saw his accent pots and realized that they would enhance the miniature orchids that I've so fallen for. Vic graciously embraced the orchid world and created wonderous pots for our project. I expect to see a lot of them revealed in the project contest photos!

The lines of his pottery is graceful, rough edged, sometimes seed pod, or shell-shaped but all forms echo the Japanese sensibility in the way that they reveal a love of nature and respect for what we find in the world that deserves to be nutured and protected. The pots enhance the orchids and the orchids enhance the pots. Both are given the proper sense of being highly respected and cherished. To Vic and his family, for their support, while we rushed him to create, we thank you!

Let the games begin!

Just so that everything is clear for everyone, here is a summary of what's going to happen with this project.

Unlike other OB projects, which are primarily about growing and flowering a particular orchid, with the Neo project, we wanted to take advantage of the fact that Neofinetia can be appreciated just as much out of flower as in flower - its all down to the presentation of the plant itself.

So, this project is composed of several contests which will all be decided by OB members or project participant polls. All entries will be anonymous, thanks to Sue who volunteered to accept photos and post them in the poll for us.

Entries will be accepted until August 1st for the following:

Awesome Blossom - the main project, is the best photo (no theme necessary) of the project plant as decided by OB members (not just project participants), like we do for the calendar contest. The winner of this contest will receive a special gift package from New World Orchids!!

Best in Bloom - Photo of one of your Neofinetia in flower, or a photo just of the flowers. The winner of this contest will be decided in a special poll open to project participants. The winner will receive a pot specially made for this contest by Vic at Erin Pottery.

Most Creative - The most creative photo, be it creativity in set up, creativity in photography, whatever... let your imagination run wild!! The winner of this contest will be decided in a special poll open to project participants. The winner will receive a pot specially made for this contest by Vic at Erin Pottery.

Samurai Award - For the best Japanese themed photo in honour of the country where these awesome plants originate. The winner of this contest will be decided in a special poll open to project participants. The winner will receive a pot specially made for this contest by Vic at Erin Pottery.

To enter each of the contests, send your photo to:

blossom@orchidboard.com

and enter the name of the contest (in bold above) that you want that photo entered into. One photo can be entered in multiple contests. Or you can enter 4 different photos, one for each of the different contests. Its totally up to you, if you want to enter one, two, or all of the contests, just put the title of the contest in the subject of the email and attach your photograph. To make life simpler for Sue, please only one photograph per email.

Remember to submit your photos before 1st August. After that Sue will set up the polls and the voting will begin!!

Good luck everyone!!
Sorry for being thick headed, but is there any limit to how many photos you can send for each contest? And is the awesome blossom contest for the neo. project plant only?

Hi Dave

You can send one photo to use in all of the contests OR send one photo to use in each of the four contests.

One photo per poll per member of the project

OK, one more detail needs clarification:

Do the photos have to be of the same plant?

Or can they be different neos?

Funny, I had the same question! But I think we have to stick to the Neo that we chose and bought as the project neo, even if we got several at once. Not sure though.

I thought that for the main competition, 'Awesome Blossom', would be for the project plant definitely. But I am open to having other Neos for the other three themed photos.

What does everyone else think?
