That's a beautiful species, never heard about it before.

Some pictures of my Den. densiflorum, my project plant.

It's in my care since august 23, 2-3 years from blooming size. So it might be able to bloom for me next spring.

It's a vigorous grower. It came in a 5 cm (2") pot and already lives in an a 11 cm (4.3") pot.

Let us get this baby flowering for me next blooming season

That looking like a great plant. How do you keep algae from forming in your pots knowing the general rainy and damp climate in the Netherlands?

I'm here because I won a Dendrobium Willette Klausner Super Nova in my orchid society's March raffle, and have been looking for some care tips.

I'm 100% new to Dendrobiums. Talk about yer great timing!

It was nicely in bloom when I got it (which lasted about a week - IIRC the March plants were originally supposed to be the Feb plants, though I've forgotten why), so I don't expect anything new in the near future. But I will keep an eye on this thread; am already learning quite a bit about Dendrobiums (though I haven't figured out yet what kind of Dendrobium this is). Appreciate all the info I'm learning from the various posts.

Not a species (so doesn't quite fit the project). This is a hybrid that consists mostly of temperate-cllimate species. (There is a small amount of warmer-growing Dens in there too, so it should grow well over a wide range of conditions and not be picky about blooming) The dominant ancestor is Den. tetragonum (which gives it the red color and spidery flowers). Unlike many of the other Aussie Dens, Den. tetragonum can bloom several times during the year... whether that characteristic comes through in the hybrid, you'll see. But at any rate, it should be a very satisfyiing orchid to grow, the photo I saw in doing my bit of research, it's beautiful. It should be fine with summer heat, and chill down to the low 40's F. And pretty much bullet-proof. Good win!

See? I knew I would learn something here.

Thanks for the info on the orchid, Roberta; I was the first raffle winner, and the Willette called out to me. Really looking forward to growing this one!

There are plenty of other things going on with my other orchids (I'm setting up some terraria) so I'll follow along with this project and maybe join the next one.

And Thursday is the next society mtg; we'll see what happens then.

Maybe some other lovely orchid(s) will follow you home. My early collection got a big boost from society raffle tables. You can see from my website where THAT led... we are all enablers here.

You'll always learn from it which also will benefit your hybrid.

There is something about Dendrobiums indeed that is magical. Great Pictures!

I rebuilt my little nanoterrarium to create better airflow and to keep it clean. My Dendrobium cuthbertsonii is doing fine after 1 week. High humidity and water from the dryer that is sprayed on by a pump with filter. Currently waiting for my small fan to create better air circulation and to Bring the temp down a little bit. Quite excited about the little cuth Will react.
