While normally I'd say it's better if we all grow the same plant or something similiar (since that's how we've always done projects), I actually really like this idea! And then everybody can pick a primary they actually like.

The only thing we'll have to keep in mind is that cultural requirements differ between Paph groups, so it will be difficult to provide blanket cultural guidelines.

That can be good thing! People need to be specific about their conditions, so others can compare and contrast. After all, for some people warm-growers can be a challenge, for others it's the cool-growers. So knowing why people chose what they chose can help too.

Yes, Paphiopedilums are an awesome idea! I have several already and I must say, they are easy to grow for me. Both the warm as intermediate-cool growers.

But I like the idea getting an other species. Or must it be a primary hybrid? Hybrids might be easier to grow, at least for me. I would like to have a challenge.
I know there are some small species, I might look into them. They are cute and beautiful at the same time.

It looks like we've pretty much mad a decision, everyone seems to like the idea of a Paph project. So yes, I'll get the new project thread up and running this weekend.

The plan seems to be to stick to the original idea of picking a primary hybrid, though now the choice is wide open. I agree that a hybrid will be more forgiving, which is great for people new to the genus. In your case you could go for primaries of more challenging species?

I probably interchanged species and primary. I always mix this up.

US growers. Where are you sourcing your plants? Fred Clarke has priced himself out of my reach. I've checked Andy's, Hausermann's, and LOC. Any suggestions?
