There isn't a 2024 project that I'm aware off. I remember I opted out for a Tolumnia project. Tolumnia's don't like me.

No one has volunteered to coordinate a project.

I don't mind picking it up and organizing a quick summer project. I'm still unemployed so have plenty of time on my hands. I can try to get it going in the next couple days and hopefully we can all start ordering by the beginning of July.

How's been managing temperatures and light for Sarcos for all of you?

I've been trying to grow mine outside, west exposure with direct sunlight for a few hours a day and it has been doing great. It has a saucer that fills up with water so I try to keep it moist when the harsh sun hits in the afternoon.

I've noticed that growth has stopped and a couple of leaves have started to yellow. I think it can tolerate the 3-4h a day of full sun it gets but we've had several days in the 80s lately and I think that's been too much for it.

Should I bring mine inside in the comfy 70s or simply place it in a more shaded outdoor area this summer? Thoughts?

There are very few orchids I would put in late afternoon LA Summer sun. Certainly not Sarcos.

After making sure they aren't getting hot sun, I would put them wherever night temperatures are lower.

On 2 out of 3 of them, I see spots where the sun damaged leaves. They are on a NNE faced balcony outdoors. Shaded by other plants and I only get 2 hours of evening sun on the orchids. But still. Mine can’t take sun although one of the 3 plants looks incredibly healthy.

I think sun tolerance varies by species or hybrid.

Mine are in a somewhat shady area (I'd call it "bright shade" - no "hot spots". But I know that these CAN be really tough, I saw a photo, in a society talk, of one in a big patio pot, full of flowers, grown in the San Fernando Valley (for those who don't know Los Angeles, it's brutally hot in the summer there, triple digits F are common). The speaker commented that it got lots of water. I have never been able to grow any of them that big, but I know it's possible.

All mine also outdoors on a NNE facing balcony but with nothing to shade except building structure on the south and east sides. Temps here usually about 10 degrees warmer than SF.

Seen a couple of leaves yellow but seems it’s because there's new growth elsewhere, roots or new fan/leaf, so I think nutrients are just being recycled elsewhere. They definitely grow much slower than Phals.

Plain tap water daily since April. No fertilizer.
