I may try to get an SVO Cat via Sam Tsui, but I don't think I will join the project. Getting SVO plants is such a rare opportunity that I prefer to have free choice of which plant(s) I get, rather that buy what the project group voted on.

I also prefer to go through Sam Tsui directly, as a group order is going to add another layer of shipping costs. Hope you don't mind!

I'm also waiting to see if I ever manage to rebloom my sole Catasetum. It bloomed in 2021 for the first time, skipped this year, and so far this season's bulbs are not on track to be large enough to bloom next year... It either doesn't like going 3 weeks without water in the middle of summer (I'm on holiday), or northern europe climate is generally not really suitable for it.

Catasetums do like to be sopping wet when they're actively growing... that and well-fed (I use time release fert for them) So opposite to their winter desires.

Sure I'll have a look but the SVO offering might be different once the pre-order window via Sam rolls around. I'm mostly into mini Cat types, and would love something with some Clowesia Rebecca Northen influence (and Rebecca Northen itself too, I'd love to have that one!)

Mine is potted with bottom third composted horse manure and the rest sphag, with slow release fert and occasionnally fert in the water too. And it's often standing in water. Over the last 2 summers it went 3 weeks without water and in low light. I did fill the pan it was sitting in but given how much these plants need to grow in just a few months time, I think 3 weeks of suboptimal care sets it back too much. Next summer I'll try to rig up an automated watering system and leave it sitting in it's usual spot (south facing window)

Oh well, but I'm sure they'll be more opportunities down the road!

Better ask him directly!
I have tried to order for 2 years and nothing.

After all, I went to the USA to order and brought it back to Spain in a shopping back.

Count on me if you go on anyway!

hey ob!

well, it’s 2023, and while I know it’s too cold to start shipping plants in most places, it’s not too cold to start thinking about this years project!

is voting going to start soon?

You might try contacting SVO and see if another vendor in Europe imports orchids from them and, if they do, contact the vendor and see if you can add to their order (they might charge a few extra Euros per orchid to help with the cost of permits and such--I went in on a foreign group order with some members of my society and had to pay a few extra dollars per orchid).
