Sorry I've disappeared for so long. Busier than ever!! Had to post this one though. The flower looks pure yellow from my desk. You can only see the pink center from below. The plant did grow several new leaves, all of which are longer and sturdier than the old one.

When I purchased my plant it came mounted and the seller told me it was blooming size. It has been hanging in my tent for more than a year with nothing to show but some new growth. Since putting up the new, larger tent I have been able to make a shadier spot for it. Let's see if this works. Maybe next spring I'll have something to share.

I had to look back...mine started blooming in April. Perhaps this coming spring? It sits close to lights and in a south window under auto misters along with the tolumnia so it gets pretty good light. Maybe just not quite big enough?

I don't think it needs much shade... My leptotes get strong morning sun, the area does get more subdued light as the day progresses. But those narrow, terete leaves suggest to me that they do like lots of light.
I think that you will be pleasantly surprised this spring. And the buds sneak up on you. You may not even notice them until they're almost ready to bloom, coming from the base of those new growths.

I think mine still has a year or two to go (Hausermann's said three....). I do not mind as I like watching plants grow, regardless of whether I get blooms or not. The new growths and roots are doing well so I am quite pleased.

I appreciate your experience more than you know,WW and Roberta. What I've read on IOSPE says deep shade. But I know different plants tolerate, and even flourish, in varied conditions outside their natural habitat. I would prefer to have it in more light so that I can see it better without moving. Maybe I'll just put it back where I had it, then. It is obviously growing without issue. I want to second guess myself so badly!  |
