Whelp, decision was to cut off the two nasty looking leaves from mine and sit it away for awhile. Thought I saw a spike getting caught up in the bottom of the remainder of the leaves, so I peeled them off. It was roots, which is even better in this instance. So it's gotten a reprieve from the trashcan for now. Time will tell...
