I've attached a picture from March, but it looks similar now, keeps on sending out flowers. Mine seems to be var hookeriana, even though I bought the common one. Little bit of sunburn can be seen if you look closely. It's now placed in what I would call full shade. Let's see how that works, winter is coming here and it might not like it! Experimenting :-)

Edit: added another photo of plant today to see the actual plant

It certainly looks like a happy plant! And yes, it doesn look like the var. hookeriana. I wouldn't mind seeing results/photos of your experimenting here, it's also a good way to learn about this plant.

You say winter is coming, but is that even a thing in Rio, or just 'less hot'?

It means - apart from shorter days with approx 10h light - lower temperatures. Many plants are happy with that and some are not. I grow plants from all continents and my phals and vandas are most sensitive. It basically means I have to be careful with watering. Cold spells can drive temperature down to 14-16 degrees during the night. Daily highs still in the 20's unless it rains, then it hovers below 20 day and night. That's bloody cold here for people and they start to wear gloves and winter boots and I don't know what! On a sunny day temperature could hit 30 even in winter.

I'm from Sweden originally so these conditions are wonderful, but still I have to be on my watch. Plants rot easily in the winter if watering is not kept in check. Not a big issue for phals, but more so for other species.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing the results of this project!

Well, here's my little itty bitty thing! The leaves have some brown discoloration like some other people here have seen, and I wonder if it isn't cold damage from shipping. It wasn't near freezing, but it could be that it's more sensitive to 'cool' temps than most Phals.

I had thought of getting a plant at the same place as SADE, but I wanted to avoid high shipping costs and decided to find one in my country. I knew it would be small, but i wasn't expecting it to be this small! Luckily Phals tend to bloom on small plants.
