I have 1 more I just thought of.

I have never been good with dendrobiums of any ilk but I'm starting to figure it out, I think.
In that learning process I've killed off a couple of Den. anosmum (superbum) which I love.

I know a lot of you probably already have one but I'm ready to try again and it would be nice to share progress reports and helpful tips.

It's also something that should be readily available.

Oh that['s a great idea! Some of the other soft cane dendrobiums are pretty small too, which is helpful for those of us who have already filled all the available space with orchids.

Oh yeah, D. anosmum is a nice one! Seems it gets kinda large, though?

Oh this is interesting, I would like to join in, I’m happy to try something I wouldn’t have picked normally.

Yeah anosmum is probably a bit large for me, even the dwarf form is pretty big.

If you click on the photo, you should see the full sized version.

I checked 4 vendors rather thoroughly (that I know are reputable), and others I just visited when I got a google hit. I wanted to check Gold Country Orchids too, but their website is empty. Feel free to check any other good vendors you know of!

Species names in red may not be good choices due to temp requirements, or was recently already a project plant. Rows highlighted in green are plants that are easily available, and in orange they could be good, if the vendors have more than 1-2 in stock!

Everything else is difficult to find, or only at one vendor (and they could have 1 plant or 30 plants!)

I also added 2 new plants to the list, Den aberrans and Den unicum. They popped up many times at vendors when searching for others on the list, so I thought they could be nice candidates!

I did not pay much attention to plant size, which I should have done. Once we've narrowed down the list we can go check this for the remaining plants.

Wow, thanks so much Camille!! I'll start updating the list as we narrow down the options and will see if I can find any other vendors to add to the list. :D

I love Den. abberans, great idea!

encyclia citrina, for your consideration

neophyte 04-10-2021 01:56 PM

Oh that one is lovely; the only consideration would be it's strongly pendent and would probably need to be mounted...
