Default Mystery Project?

I love your list, Sue! Especially the Mystery Catts.
Wouldn't that Mystery Orchid idea be an interesting project? Everyone who signed up would receive the same orchids (three different miniature unnamed species). We would have to go by gut instinct and basic culture tips. Maybe a couple clues given along the way. Once they start blooms, the names would be revealed. Or we could throw in some guesses and see who comes closest to guessing the exact species before blooming. Perhaps use orchids that appear to be many different ones, so it would be hard to pinpoint from a glance.
Specify to a certain vendor (discounted of course) that we want three different miniatures and what the requirements must be, and have him decide and ship the three unknowns to whoever signs up with just general instructions.
I'm making this up as I go, but it could be an interesting twist....you think? Just a thought, thanks to your Mystery Catts.
Yeah, yeah, I know.....I got to get a life!

For those of you wondering...the above post was a reply to some "mystery Cattleyas" I have listed on my April status list.

kiki, now you've gone and made my wheels start turning again!

I love the idea!!! I do think that there would have to be
totally (yet part of the same project) separate arrangements made in major "locations" usually enveloped in our projects...the US, Canada and Europe. I'm also thinking that maybe this one would need to have a limit as to how many could participate, like a first-come, first-serve deal...expecting a vendor to supply such a request to more than say 20 people in the US would be a tall order.

I'm going to move your post and my response into our new Member Projects forum and set the ball rolling...let's see what our friends have to say!

I agree with this, and was thinking about it. It would be a shame to turn down people if more than 20(or whatever number) are interested. Maybe, if there are many people, it could be split into 2 groups with 2 differents plants. Possibly a cool grower group and a warm grower group or something like that. Just an idea.

How about - we agree on the culture we all can provide (yeah, right!) and coordinator contact vendor for choices. Vendor(s) would submit choices to coordinator who would then announce the ordering proceedure once the choice was made. I see no reason why Europe couldn't have a different unknown than North America. Or even split NA into different choices as well. Why not the same "mystique" but different plants in each major area? So maybe one vendor in Canada, one in Europe, one in US, one in S.A., etc? Each with their own mystery plant. More record keeping, but more fun. Maybe a different coordinator in each major area? If we let vendors select, then maybe we don't need to control how many participate? Just a few thoughts.

I think it's a neat idea. That way each group could have fun guessing what the other plants are!

LOL...this is just the very first discussions on whether it's even a viable idea!

With our current double-project, I don't see this happening for a few months...at the very least, not before August.

Just looking for some thoughts
