If we let vendors select, then maybe we don't need to control how many participate? Just a few thoughts.
I think it's a neat idea. That way each group could have fun guessing what the other plants are!

The people here never cease to amaze me! What great ideas!

Ross, I think that the parameters we need to give to the nursery would be the same as for any project plant: Intermediate or temp tolerant grower, small/mini, etc.

You know, there are some cool growing vandas... just might try to track one down - but I'm having too much fun with the Neos (which are vanda-like enough for me!)

Shannon, I think lately that has been the agreement, but not necessarily in the early projects. I may be wrong, but I think there was so much disparity between growers, that we needed to agree on a level playing field. My only point is once the field is agreed to, why not allow for different plants (if necessary) between major growing areas and suppliers? As far as I am concerned, the spirit of this project (should it come about) would be met with two sets of conditions for the US (Warm and Cool/Intermediate) and as many as necessary for the other areas. Why not? Just a bit of record keeping is all. This way South America/Central America/Hawaii/Singapor could participate with warm growers, while we temperature-challenged folk could grow cool to intermediate. None of us would know what we had till the card was opened.

Ross, As long as the 'chids have a good chance of doing well for people - I think anything goes. I'd be happy with a warm/cool split, that way everyone could choose something that works for their environment.

The fun part of this, I think, is introducing people to some new types of orchids that they may not already grow.

Wow! You've all been busy today...while I was enjoying a lunch cruise down the Weeki Wachee River on a friend's boat

I just read through the last few pages...we have plenty of time to get the details down. My thinking is to get one vendor in the US, one vendor in the EU, and so on that will be willing to work with us on such a broad spectrum level. Then the coordinator in each of those places (me for the US) would work out the details...like three different plants within the same size and temperature range to be scattered around to our members. I would get a master list of what plant is shipped to what member so there will always be information readily available if anybody needs it.

Keep the ideas coming...this place ROCKS!!!

Ok, I promised to stop it now I just sent an order to NWO... two new Neos: Benisuzume - which I missed by mistake in Thun, and Ogonmaru - which I just fall in love with (I will then have pink, white, yellow, green ) and Dendrbium moniliformes Mangetsu

I think I need to start looking for a larger apartment... I even found a swiss website selling "portable" Greenhouses for terrasses - quite cool ones as stable as fix greenhouses (made out of glass and aluminium, and the smallest is 2.5WX5.0Lx2.5H m), but you can take them in pieces, put them in a BIG box and take them with you to the next house... and not too expensive...

hey, it was for a good cause!!! I was just helping Camille to reach the $100 limit in a single order, so she could get her plant sent to Lyon and could start her Neo Project so, my plants will visit Camille's home first and by my next business trip to Lyon I'll bring them to Basel

I SWEAR IT WAS THE ONLY REASON!!!!

and if I stop sending mssages here by the end of the month, is because my partner had a look on my Visa-bill and killed me with my orchids
