Another reason I think it is putting out a new growth is I noticed something in the crown of the plant a while back ago...maybe early summer last year? I treated it with an insecticide a few times and I never actually saw anything moving or multiply...but I have these dark stuff, could be insects dead or alive, and these weird bumps appeard on the leaves towards the crown on the most upper leaves....doesn't look like scale but it's just to weird...I never posted anything just hoping it would turn out ok...but I haven't had any new leaf growth ever since so this is why I think I have a new growth and not a spike!

Sorry for the long story and all the pictures!
Bec, that's definitely....a new growth. I can't tell what the black stuff in the crown is either from the pictures. Maybe you can gentley spread the top 2 leaves a bit and peer into there to see what the heck is going on. From what I understand, Sedireas don't usually put out new growths the way neos do. So if you've got a keiki thing coming out, I'm guessing something's going on in the crown area.

Flowers would have been really nice Becca but a new growth would be welcomed by me. My plant was doing just fine until I mounted it last summer. I started leaf drop until there was nothing left. I have recently replaced it but the plant that I got, that is cork mounted, appears to be a seedling that is a bit floppy looking. The root system is active and healthy but it was apparently not getting enough water. I ordered it from Tropica Ltd. in Montana. Have you ever bought from them. I got a half dozen miniatures that are very nice. No bonus plant though.

Being mounted, I water mine about every other day. I try not to let it to dry, but almost dry if that makes sense. I would rather have blooms then a new growth, the new growth confirms what I feared. Whatever it was I treated previously, it must have damaged the crown of the plant.

Ok, I am officially amazed, thrilled, surprised, what-have-you. I can confirm this morning that FINALLY after all this time, my Sedirea has the beginning of a spike! It has gone so long without doing anything, I had almost given up on her.

Well I won't give up on mine then...but I doubt mine will do anything this year since she is currently sitting in a cardboard box with her friends since I just moved. They have been sitting in boxes for the last two weeks, and one more week to go until I can get their new home set up for them.

Can wait to see a picture of yours in bloom Yvan!

And here she is... drum roll please... after all this time, her first blooming! THRILLED I am. Also, the fragrance is crazy intense. Didn't quite realize how intense it would be.

Nice! Mine has been completely dormant all year, maybe grew a leaf, or two. Then, all of a sudden (after receiving it's springtime shot of nitrogen), it exploded with two basal keikis and a spike! It will probably be ready in another week, or two. Good job!
