Kiki, your plant looks teriffic. If I were you I would do something about the black tip. In my experience, I have discovered that anything black on a leaf usually results in loss of the leaf if not cared for and it can take months to happen. I would cut the black away by going at least half inch into the good tissue and then treat with a fungicide or cinnamon.

Kiki I am jealous! I want to know why my two aren't spiking! What are you doing different?!!!! More light? More water? All mine are doing are growing new roots and new leaves like crazy (not that I am complaining about that)!

Is there a calendar reminder for posting updates I am missing on this project? I looked but couldn't find it as well as the Quickie Project 5?

Hey Becca, I'm not doing anything special. Bright light, but not direct, and I don't let it completely dry out before watering. MSU when I think of it...about every 3rd watering. That's it! Nothing special.

Just an update. I had 6 buds, and the bottom 3 blasted. The top 3 looked like they would make it, and now they too are blasting. I may have let the plant dry out before watering a couple times. Do you think that would have done it? I'm so bummed out by this.

I have also had this happen from feeding it too much nitrogen while it was trying to bloom. What are you feeding it?

I give mine MSU Fertilizer almost every watering. I have lots of roots, but no spikes.

Would some one mind giving me a refresher on growing conditions for this 'chid? I am mostly wanting to know lighting requirements. I am growing mine in high cattleya light and I was just told these like it shady and to give them about 40% light. I am not sure how that translates into foot candles. I like to define lighting in terms of phal lighting, paph lighting, cattleya lighting, vanda lighting, etc. I am afraid mine won't bloom if I am giving it to much light, although mine seems happy with new roots and new leaves. I was looking for links for culture info in the Project 6 thread but I must have missed it. Thanks in advance!
