Hurrah for the new spike!! I didn't know they bloomed during the winter too. I'm not so lucky. My Sedirea is slowing dying....

Camille, sorry to hear yours is slowly dying? Can we help you figure out what is going on to try and save it?

AWESOME, Kiki!! Nice work! Does this mean you're scoring the Project 6 win??

Oh no, Camille! ...let us know what's going on with yours to see if we can help you rescue it.

Sure seems like she's the winner! I don't think anyone else got blooms yet that are the result of their hard work! Good job!!

It suffered from a bad case of mealies for a long time (since august). I thought I got everything with rubbing alcohol, but forgot to check the roots. The new leaf only grew to be a quarter of the size of the others and when I found more mealies two weeks ago, I unpotted it. The roots were covered it them, sucking all the little plant's energy. I used rubbing alcohol on the roots, but now I'm thinking it was probably a huge mistake. The leaves are starting to wrinkle, from the bottomest one and up, and the two newest roots now have dead blackened tips. I rinsed off the roots yesterday, but I think it's too little, too late.

I bought a systemic insectide today (with imidacloprid) to treat the entire collection because the mealies keep on popping up everywhere. I was going to buy it weeks/months ago, but since the alcohol seemed to be doing the job, I didn't feel like buying a pricey insecticide.

It's hanging on for now. I'm going to spray it again as a preventative mesure, since I have a scale problem on another plant. In it's weakened state, I don't know if the Sedirea would survive a scale attack. I still think it could go either way, so I'm babying it. I think it will lose a few leaves. The roots are still alive, although a bit blackened. I'll keep my fingers crosses

Hi All,
Here is an update on my Sedierea Japonica. It's starting to develop individual buds now. This was taken today.
Oh, one more thing, it has one leaf with a real black to the tip end of it. Any idea what might cause that? It's been there a while now and it's not in direct sun. It only gets fairly bright light.
