that's what I would think too... I am growing my Phal amabilis variegated under 2 fluorescent tubes (T8-36Watt) at around 25 cm below them and it is doing fine. My sedireas seems to like more light than that, as they became very dark green after two months under these conditons)

Ramon, our calendar event seems to have vanished...which has happened in the past too...I'll reschedule monthly updates as soon as I can.

Shannen, great plant and wonderful pot!

That's a great looking plant, Shannen! I've never seen a variegated one before -- good choice.

Shannan: That variegated sedirea is freakin' fantastic! It's stunningly GORGEOUS!

Whatever you do, don't burn it with too much light. . .better to go slow and increase light levels as needed.

Congratulations!

I'm back everybody! I have internet again!!! I am sad to report that my little Sidirea is not doing so well. It was mounted, but I discovered all the roots had rotted. After placing it in a pot, I have kept it on the drier side in some moss, with slits cut in the pot to really provide alot of air to the one remaining root. It is by no means dead, but the leaves are limp and I really want to save it! What am I doing wrong?? Any ideas???

Elliot, Great to see you back!! Though, sorry to hear about your plant!

I didn't think it was possible to over water a mounted plant - but I learn something new everyday!!

What is your humidity at the moment? If the plant only has one root and still has lots of leaves, it will be losing a lot of water through the leaves (especially if the air is on the dry side) and the root may not be able to take up as much water as the plant needs. The good news is that this situation should trigger the plant to grow more roots!! But, we need to make sure it has the energy and 'life' to do that.

Have you been feeding the plant? With what/how often/what dosage? What type of water do you use (tap, rainwater, RO)? How often were you watering it? I mist my mounted plants once a day (sometimes twice if its warm and dry) and soak them once a week.

I noticed on the calendar that we're supposed to do a Project 6 update today! What's the protocol for doing this?

Elliot, I have one mounted and one potted. The potted has done very well compared to the mounted. Not sure what you are doing, but this plant is very robust and takes all sorts of abuse. My potted one is in a "milky-colored" pot where I can watch the roots. I have it in medium bark mix and water every-other-day or so. The roots turn white long before I choose to water. Maybe yours is too wet?

Default Sedirea photo update

Well, here it goes...

Not a whole lotta action to report. The new leaf growing when I received it has gotten pretty big, tho. It's the biggest leaf on it so far. Can also see the steady progress of the root growing up along the mount behind the plant.

In sequence, April-May-June (this kinda thing would make a really cool flip-book!):

Anyone else?
