You guys are giving me too many wonderful ideas for my setup, my creativeness is going into overdrive! I think I'm going to aim for the japanese garden look, with the Neo mounted on a rock, a sand bed with little decorative rocks and mini plants in it, some moss, and my maple bonsai. I might possibly rig up a mini mini fountain of some sort. Now all I need is the Neo.... in 2 months!!

You guys are doing so well! I haven't found the right pots yet, but there a couple of nice ones on eBay that I'm eyeing. I think I'll be waiting tough. I am going to the Ann Arbor show this weekend, and next weekend is the chinese Toronto Artisitic Orchid Association's Orchid show (gotta love the chinese up here ) that I think I will drag my mom to, even though I will be flat broke after Ann Arbor. Maybe they will have some little pots...... maybe I can convince my mom I need more plants

Sue, Would the bottom of a plastic sandwich container work? Or some other plastic container, lot's of different sizes at Wally-World. Then could be filled with sand and 'raked' or filled with water with a few drops of blue food coloring.........

Al, I am glad that they are behind you... and I'm sure everyone here joins me in hoping for the best possible outcome!

And what a great idea with the blue food colouring!!! Awesome! Just might have to try that myself

Guys, you're gonna laugh.. but I think I am getting a bit lost here

for the Neo Project... we are not lonly going to check for the culture of the Neofinetia but also for the way to exhibit, right? Is this "exhibition setup" thought to be something permanent for the plant, or just bild together for teh pcitures, and then plant can co back to its normal place? I mean, I had thought only to try the japanese method in a nice plain japanese pot... but reading this thread I think I need to re-think my ideas and plan a whole "Fuji Landscape" or similar

Yeah, I'm getting lost in all this discussion as well. I thought the project started from a bunch wanting to specifically grow the Neos. Then it seemed to migrate to display, now to whole stages? I'm lost.

Ramón,

I think the answer to your question is that we have a very, very creative group of people here!!

I, myself, was going to do mine in a permanent pot/display. We didn't really specify that as a requirement for the project, though...

Hi Ramon,
Yeah, we are getting a bit off track here. So don't worry about a 'display' of any kind unless you want to. I'm just growing mine in the pot it came in set within a little more decorative one. It just seemed like fun to do something different with the very oriental looking Neo. (Go for it, let's see what you come up with!) Sue, now look what you've gone and done!

I think one of the primary motivations - certainly for me and Gwen - when we initially thought of a Neo project, was the whole display side of things.

That idea seems to have taken on a life of its own - with people getting very, very creative! Which is great, as I think its more fun.

There is certainly no requirement to do a 'stage set'... and looking at it from an aesthetic of minimal "less is more" viewpoint, I think that something very simple and striking is certainly a valid path to take - and very Japanese.

Just my - certainly not any definitive answer!!
