Gwen & I do have fun going on "Orchid Hunts" Our boss is wonderful about it. We will usually get the "look" & will ask if we can take a little longer lunch. She will just roll her eyes & just tell us "What ever will make us happy" & off we go.
Last night when I got home, I showed my hubby what I got in the mail & other stuff,he just rolled his eyes. He did ask what it was for, I told him that Gwen got it & what Gwen gets, I have to have also.
again the rolling of the eyes. (I did not bring home the Sogo Yellow nor did I tell him about it)
I thank Gwen for taking the pixs since I am the one that is tech challenged.

Diane

Just placed my order today from J & L for a standard Siderea japonica and also a Neofinetia falcata. They will bring them to the Vancouver show at the beginning of May. I am so envious of those who are ordering in quantities but my space is really at a premium and I already have four other plants coming from H & R.

Just wondering if I can participate in the Neo project or am I 'way too late??

Not too late at all. . .just in time!
But hurry up and place your order. . .anywhere you'd like, for any type you'd like to grow.

Ever since the suggestion yesterday of Japanese figures being set up next to my Neo, I have done nothing but think of Japanese decor...and how to work it into my scheme!

Woke up this morning and decided to move some stuff around...the 7 'chids that were in my Exo-Terra have now been moved to the orchid room and the only thing in the tank is the Neo mount. I'm thinking Zen Gardens, Buddahs and Samurai swords!

This is gonna be a dangerous one!!!
Sue - Thats a fabulous concept!! There is going to be some great stuff coming out of this competition!!

Keep the coming!

I guess the first thing I am looking for help with is how to determine when the Neo needs water? I am not a fan of sphagnum and tend to overwater or rot plants and these were too expensive to screw up. Anyone have words of wisdom. The cultural sheets don't answer that specific question to my satisfaction.

Ross, even though mine are potted, I tend to treat them like they were mounted. I believe they like to have lots of air around their roots, so they are in an area with very good air circulation. This tends to dry out the moss quite quickly for me. Though I don't have a lot of moss inside the pot, its mostly just open space. I will mist the top/outside of the moss every couple of days to keep the roots growing on the outside happy. But I only water (dunk) once a week - less in winter when its so dark here. I think mine could take a bit more water, but because of my high humidity, I wanted to err on the dry side.

Hope that helps a bit! Hopefully someone who has grown this more than a year will have more or better advice!
