Hello orchid friends. I was going thru old junk in my phone came across an orchid board email made me think I miss y’all. With me winding down from a very active grow season I don’t have much to say but hi! I will try to upload a photo of my newest zygo I’ve got new pseudo starting. The blooms are almost done. Is this the wrong time to repot? Thank you———B
Hello orchid friends, so I repotted big mamma I’ve never seen roots like what I saw repotting. They were as big as my phal roots they were plump like mamma. At the base of the plant the roots were like a potbound house plant where they go around and around no place left to go. I should’ve taken a photo of them. The pot I had for the orchid wasn’t all that much bigger. Absolutely no way i would’ve be able to repot in the old pot. I’ve repotted using the same pot many times. I do replace old mushy medium. So what do y’all think? Did I do ok? I’m always so nervous about an orchid repot especially my favorite orchids my zygos.
Personally, I'd have gone with a bigger pot. As it is, that new froth is climbing out of the pot, and still gas a lot of growing to do.
The standard thinking is to allow about room for about a year's growth to occur without exiting the pot, and with the "back" of the old growths up against the pot, so the new growth is centered, where it has room to grow unimpeded.
