Hi guus,

This is the story about my plant- it’s almost year I have it - new roots, new bulbs.. But I am worried about the plant maybe she is dying? New bulbs are getting bogger and bigger, they are nice and green but the old bulbs (the original when I bought the plant) are getting smaller I think? Or maybe it’s an illusion because new bulbs are getting bigger I am not sure. What do you think? Is it normal? Thanks

One note on Max. tenuifolia (and the other Maxillarias in this group)... they are climbers... new pseudobulbs emerge above the old ones. there will be brown bracts between the pseudobulbs. Don't be tempted to "tidy it up" by removing them - there are roots running behind those brown bracts, and those apparently dry things are actually protecting the roots. Removing them is a good way to kill the plant. Let it be untidy.

Ok thank you guys! I am just worried about the old bulbs as they look much smaller than new ones! The plant is currentoutside catching some spring sun!

No blooms yet, I bought her and she was quite small... can’t wait to see the bloom!

Max tenuifolia blooms are very sneaky, the buds camouflage themselves very well. You look and think you see no buds, and a day later you smell coconut, examine the plant, and find a bunch of blooms!

I hope for you that you get a couple flowers this year, mine didn't start flowering until it was about 5 times that size, at least.

Hi guys! I know you said my plant is too small for flowers but I just noticed today some buds (at the moment I can see about 4)... they are not so spiky looking like a new green bulbs. Do you think this may be flower buds? At the moment I can see 4. Thanks!

I don't think it is too small to bloom... So very possible.

Mine started to bloom as soon as it started to "stack" bulbs, which yours is doing. Good luck, they could certainly be buds.
