Really Miniature Maxillaria!

Thanks to Patty, I found these two Maxillaria: vernicosa & seidellii.

These came from J & L Orchids. These are so small that I was given a small refund from the vendor!

But these are so COOL! For comparison sake, I have Sedeira (Phalaenopsis) japonica behind these two Maxillaria. The plant looks huge but it is in a 2” net pot.

Matt I see you received your order today as well along with a small refund. I had emailed J & L beforehand and inquired as to the pot size of these plants. Lucas replied they were 1" pots, I was hoping for a fuller pot than I received. I'm sure I will be able to grow them, they are super tiny but very cool.

Do you plan to leave them in their pots? I know I will until they at least show some signs of establishing. They were very dry , I've put them into my greenhouse shelving unti.

They did come very dry. They seemed to be kind of smushed to the side of the pot. So I wet them and got them righted. They are Sphagnum moss sitting on top of a styrofoam peanut.

Underneath the surface of the moss, the moss appears to be good, so I am keeping them in the pot and let them grow as they are. I am debating on putting them in a grow dome.

Yep, mine are exactly the same. The seidelii was more smushed to the side than the vernicosa and I did the same as you.

I put mine into the greenhouse shelf for the humidity, though the seidelii likes cooler temp. I noticed J & L listed them both as intermediate temperatures so I'll watch that.

Here are a couple of pictures, one is with the uncata in the net pot and the minuta on the wood mount, for size. These lil guys are teenie! So cool though, love the growth on these.

Did they use enough tape on these tiny pots!!!? OMG I was afraid I would break them!

Yes, these plants were well packed! It is funny that the box had more paper than plants.

Lol, I had quite a lot of paper! They were packed very well indeed. It will be interesting and fun to watch these little pots fill up.

Wow, those are TINY! And they make that Sedirea look downright enormous in comparison.

Patty- I thought that your first Maxie (the Neo-like one) was small, but with each order your Maxies get smaller and smaller!

Camille these are very tiny and so cute! Even when grown to a specimen size they are 1.5" tall. I hope they will grow as well as my first one, the Neo-like uncata has grown some in the weeks I've had it. It has flowered twice and seems happy in its leca and net pot so I'll leave it. I understand they don't like having their roots disturbed.

There are a few additional tiny Maxillaria, I've not found any available. The Maxillaria uncata is in a pot that is 2 1/2" tall. The plant is shorter than the tag inside the pot pushed to the bottom of the pot, it is a very small maxie. It is maybe twice the size as the new ones in height. Here it is with tag for size.
