I like it! It's such a nice color. The shape of the flower kind of reminds me of Ophyrs orchids, which are a genera of wild orchids I've seen in the lower Alps.
Can it be grown in a pot or does it really need to be mounted? I just don't have time to deal with mounted plants!

This is one of those chids that, as I understand it, is usually grown mounted because of its growth habit. This was a division which I had received in trade. As you may be able to tell from the pic, each successive growth comes out higher than the older one before/below it.
Can it be grown in a pot? I'm guessing it would -- once it got growing -- quickly step up & out. Might try mounting it and putting the mount in a pot.
Camille, it usually gets watered once or twice a week. (It would probably like more frequent watering but that hasn't been on the agenda.) Lately I have been misting it once a day -- but that is simply because I am so amazed and pleased that it decided to bloom that I figured I'd pamper it a bit in hopes the bloom lasts longer.

I'm still not sure WHY mine decided to bloom

Not sure if it's supposed to be high light or not, Ross. It was hanging by one of my plant stand's fluorescent lights [roughly cattleya light] until very recently.

It's very nice, Paul. I haven't tried one of those yet. Looks interesting.
I also like your wooden basket. Can you tell me where you got it? I like the construction of it.

I found this open today. What a thrill considering I definitely had it on the ropes this summer after a very bad mounting attempt. By October, the pbulbs had shriveled to the thickness of a dime when I decided to repot. There are about 12 more buds on the way. I'll post a full bloom photo in my gallery when they all open. I grow it in pure sphagnum in a 3 inch pot set inside a heavier pot in full sun.

Congratulations, Paul! Looks like a very healthy plant. Now I know what I can look forward to, but mine is in a pot, not mounted. I'll cross my fingers.

Hey, Paul....a beauty. I can't believe how much the flower resembles a Lycaste form....and as Ross asked, what kind of growing conditions????
