Maxillaria Tenufolia in bloom
My Maxillaria Tenufolia is in bloom. Eleven flowers open, with at least eleven more buds to go. Unfortunately, the fragrance is still close to non-existent. It only has a scent if you place your nose on the flower. I was hoping for some magical change, wishing last year was just a scentless fluke. I tore a small chunk out and put it in s/h. Pretty sure the plant doesn't even notice it is gone.

Nice, very nice. Hopeing ours will bloom this year. Have had it three years and has not bloomed yet. Moved it to a more sunny location last fall and have been giving it more water over the winter. Hope this is the trick. To bad that yours is not producing that trademark coconut scent, maybe as the flowers age. Thanks for sharing and love the basket and hanger

Good luck getting yours to flower. I place mine outside in very bright light, full sun for a large part of the day (shaded from noon till 2 ish). It tends to get sprayed down daily when outside. Winter: it hangs in a south facing window, no protection, and I water infrequently. The "basket" is just a liner (for a basket) I picked up at a garage sale, for a quarter. I just used zip ties to fasten it and hang it. They sell the liners at Lowes. It lets plenty of air circulate. The birds tend to steal some of it every spring though!

Looks great. Hope mine blooms this summer. It's still finishing its latest set of pseudobulbs.

Last week saw one bud, now there are five buds and one flower open. Yea, yea, yea, that's me doing the chicken dance. Does have the coconut scent and waiting for hopefully more buds and flowers to open. Thanks to everyone who helped with advice and information and growing tips. Greatly appreciated!

I am so happy it bloomed for you this year. Just goes to show, with a little attention to culture, the plant will reward you. Great job!

That's a great plant you've got. I got my first one a few months ago. It came in a pot with tightly packed moss. I set it on my dresser near my 6500k CFL I keep some of my other plant under. It was severely dehydrated so I left it in the straight moss for a while to let it recover. I watered it when the moss started to dry out and didn't pay it much attention besides that.
I went to check it out when the bulbs started plumping back out, and low and behold, but there was a single flower about to open on the backside. When it did, I could smell the coconut from a foot or two away, so I can't wait till it gets blooms all over.
I don't know exactly how long it's been open, but I took a picture not long after it opened and my phone has it time stamped as 4/12/2016. It's now 5/11/2016 and I really don't see any difference in the looks of the flower. I don't know how long it'll last.
It seems to be an awesome and tuff plant. I'm probably going to take a bulb or two and try to propagate them I'll put one in a brighter area of the house and one outside, once it's established, and see how it does. I ordered some seramis and leca, so I may try those with it.
