It is also questionable to say that tetraploids are always necessarily associated with desirable features, such as good form and other characteristics we look for. Their main significance lies in their breeding influence. Because of their doubled chromosome number, they assert double the influence that a normal diploid would. Thus, the tetraploid has led to the finest advances in orchid breeding. This is because certain plants of good quality have been discovered to be tetraploids and they have been used in breeding to exert the advantage of their added breeding influence.

I hope the link works for you. It is the first time I have tried adding a link in a post. If not you can do a search for 4 n orchid and it should show up. I am not literate on this particular subject so I am just providing a source for you to research at your convenience.
If you are interested, I have pictures of my Max. Tenufolia (4n) in my member's gallery.

The link worked, thanks! And thank you for all the info. Your plant is gorgeous, what a shame the fragrance is minimal.

Doncha just hate it when one takes a trip ? I've had that happen a few times. I have a way of knocking one off the shelf when I'm picking them up to water them. Ugh, bark all over the floor

Another bud!
This baby just wants to bloom and bloom! The first pic is of the new bud which is on the piece that snapped off when I dropped it. The second pic shows the 2 buds that bloomed just recently (pics of the buds in my last post) on the original part of the plant. I picked this up at Jim Marlow's open house this spring, think I spent maybe $15 for it...have to say it's probably the best 15 bucks I ever spent! Besides being in bloom when I got it, it's given me an additional 5 flowers since and I was under the impression that because I bought it in bloom that I wouldn't see any more flowers until spring and then only if I was lucky lol
Edited to add: The 2 original blooms which opened around 8/4, although fading a bit are still hanging in there and still smell delicious

Thanks Rosie The last one is just starting to open now, the first 2 dropped a few days ago but still have 2 blooms going strong. How are you growing yours? Mine are in an east facing picture window and I keep the pot sitting in a dish of water.

Mine is mounted and get's high light. Direct Sun in summer (though it's UK summer so...) and as bright as possible in winter while not letting it freeze.
