I checked my Tenufolia
it was blooming while I was on a road trip..
makes the whole greenhouse smell like coconut..the bees seem to like it tooo.
you might be able to see how I got the plant to stand up.. the little hoop in the middle with butterflies holds the bulbs up..I think they look better growing up and not out so much. saves room too. Thanks!!

You grow it potted! How nice! What do you use for a medium? Just a gorgeous plant! I'm envious!

Beautiful Maxillaria tenuifolia RJSQUIRREL! I was in my office tonight and noticed a nice coconut scent, and found my two plants also blooming. I purchased mine over five years ago from Hausermann's.
Mine is growing in NZ sphagnum moss, in bright light. I allow it to dry out before watering again.

How beautiful!! What a nice surprise to come home to. I also need to find a way to stake the plant, maybe with a similar hoop method. The plant is getting so large that the taller growths collapse and sometimes break off. No buds on mine yet... The only year it bloomed was the year it had a really really sunny winter.

thanks you all!
Ive grown mine in the greenhouse/shade house for about 3 years. It gets full sun during the cooler times of year and 70% shaded during the summer right next to the cattleyas. I take the shade cloth off in november and I just put it back up at the end of march.
Has RJS '1/3rd' mix..1/3rd equal parts orchiata bark,( I say orchiata bec its not just orchid bark. Its a brand name and the best stuff for your orchids in the bark category hands down.). Charcoal medium chunky, and Dyna Rok another branded product which is dolomite that is heat treated and contains all the trace elements your fertilizer may not contain. Bark, charcoal, and dolomite goes well with anything orchid. No fuss no muss. Very simple. Ive gone simple and the plants seem to respond accordingly. They are all fed Peters Excel 15-5-15 Cal - Mag Special Fertilizer on a weekly weakly basis and watered as needed. The tenufolia doesnt dry out it as it likes to be steamy and moist all the time. Every bulb has 2 buds on it a full flush
you can grow and be successful with these in many styles of growing. Getting the light they need during the cold months is the key to getting the blooms in the spring

I'd be happy with just one lonely bloom, so I can't imagine how I would feel with 2 blooms per bulb! Jealous of your greenhouse....

That's a beautiful max! I found some critters in mine and ultimately had to divide it and really stress the plant out... A week later it sent out a bloom! LOL. they really are tough.
