I recently found this plant for sale, costing R1200( $120) the seller said that the plant is 1.5m x 1m in diameter. I would just like to know if it is worth saving for this palnt . happy growing!!

They're moderately easy to grow. They don't withstand a whole lot of abuse. If you can keep up with their needs, you're golden.

Yes, they're pretty large plants.

Can't say too much about the pricing, your country is different from the US. They are generally expensive though.

Thanls , the man selling them made it more clear to me the plant he sell ARE 1.5m x 1m in diameter so it is a huge plant.

I apologize, I needed to state things more precisely, please don't take offense.

I wasn't meaning the particular plant you were eyeing is a large plant, which I agree, it clearly is.

I meant to say that the species in general can attain large sizes. The prices may sometimes reflect this. The prices may also reflect that the orchid doesn't grow terribly fast. It takes quite a bit of time to get a small division or a small seedling to the size the plant that the man's selling you. They're not the slowest growing orchid, but they're not the most expedient growers out there either - somewhere in the middle.

With respect to the price of the plant in relation to the species itself, and whether it's worth the price or not, it's rather difficult to explain.

If it were me, I'd say maybe, but there are so many factors why I'd say this. What's more important is if you think its worth it.

I honestly don't know how your country's hobby system values this species.

Here in the US, I can probably find it for a fraction of the price the man's selling you. However, the trade-off might be that the division might not be very large, they might not be in superb shape, or they might not be blooming sized plants. In fact, if I told you how much I bought a pretty good sized non-blooming sized plant in good condition for, you'd probably think I'm full of it. But this is the United States I'm talking about, not South Africa.

So if you think it's worth getting for whatever reasons, then it's worth it.

If you think you can find a better deal, then go and find the better deal.

Someone from the US can't really tell you this, only someone from South Africa who knows the hobby there well can.

Can't answer your question but I just wanted to chime in and say those flowers are super cool. I love the imitation "moth"on the lip. I'd second the King above though.

Nice find.

If the plant is strong and healthy and you like it - do it ! For me the price equals 95 Euro which is okay.
