Are Zygos small?
I bought this plant NoID at trader joes I have been wanting a Zygo since I discovered them I love the colors they are like the punks of orchids.
When I got mine home I looked at it next to my Zygonisia and was surprised at how small this Zygopetalum was. The leaves are smaller the flowers are smaller. Is it just the type of hybrid?
Is this just a young plant? Are Zygopetalum kind of small?
Here is a comparison photo of the plants I am talking about.

No, Zygopetalums in general are not really all that small. They are fairly decent sized plants.
The longest growth on my Zygopetalum mackayi is 11.5" long, and this is not as large as it can get. Zygopetalum mackayi can get a little larger than 11.5".

My Zygo gets quite tall with very long leaves. Have to use tomato stake holders to keep them in place.

My Z. mackayi just went out-of-bloom. the leaves are about 12"-14", and the flower spikes stood a foot above them.

So why is mine small? Is it because it's a young plant ? Could it be the hybrid ? Or was growth stunted due to stress?

It's probably the hybrid.

Zygopetalums can easily grow into big plants, but hybrids with Acacallis tend to stay much smaller.

Hi, I have a Zygo Advance Australia. It's a hybrid and was sold as a "compact grower". Mine finished flowering this past September. It's leaves are about 12" long and it's flower spikes were just a little taller. It's in a 4" pot.
As I didn't want a huge plant, it's just about perfect!

Thank you, this is going on my want list. Cool blooms and I need a smaller plant.

Thanks guys. I like the size mine is so I am happy to hear it should stay compact.
But mine does not smell at all? I put my nose right up in the flower and smell nothing! I am a bit disappointed but the small size makes up for it I guess.
