Zygopetalum hybrid in bloom. Male
Default Zygopetalum hybrid in bloom.

I purchased this orchid.... a few months ago from Trader Joe's.
It had beautiful flowers and an intense fragrance. Two spikes. But a confusing flower form combined with bad staking made me wonder what it actually looked like.

Well it finally bloomed again. Only one spike this time. But more flowers on the spike.

5 flowers total. Extremely sweet hyacinth scent. But crisp and clean without the musk.
It's strong enough to fill my entire upstairs with fragrance. And lasts all day.
I call it my amethyst zygo. Because whatever the lighting it's always a shade of amethyst.

One flower came out upside down. Dunno why.

I've seen similar hybrids for sale at Trader Joe's since. But I haven't seen this exact one. Side by side the ones I often see are much smaller, more muted in colour, greener, and not nearly as fragrant.

Sorry for rambling. First ever zygo spike.

I have a bluebird though. Which is not doing well lol. It's similar but different enough
that I thought they weren't the same.
Who knows though. Trader Joe's gets so many different types of zygo's in.
