Rosie, mine is hanging in a Mango tree, stays out whole year. It gets quite a bit of direct sun and also filtered sun. I think it likes heat. Side exposed to more of direct sun seems to grow more. Plant is in a clay pot without holes except for drainage. This is one of the first orchids I got, had no clue back then about best media and put whatever I had at home for my Hoyas.Whole pot is then placed in the plastic hanging pot. Gets watered almost daily in summer and less in winter.
I have seen them grow to enormous size,in a tree fern pot/basket.
It is pretty carefree here....I hardly fertilize it.
