Talking Is this a Bifrenaria harrisoniae spike?

A strange growth appeared and its soft to the touch and it hasn't formed any roots but there is a new growth on the other side. The actual pseudobulb growth was very hard ans more rounded/wider at the base.

I repotted the plant into Styrofoam
and lava rock drainage with orchidata as well as a dressing of high quality new zealand sphagnum moss.

I don't know these either but it looks like what a spike is on Phals, lol! Looks like the clubbed end of it resembles buds developing.

Hey I have the exact plant but has yet to bloom
Questions: is the NZ miss too wet for your plant ?
And how cold do you keep it in winter?
Mine is in coco chunks and winter down to 50 or so.
Just sitting there not doing poorly but no flowers
Thanks
Andrew

Talking

The first picture is a picture of the spike on 5/1/14. The second was taken on 5/3/14. The third was this morning.

Sorry if I sound sarcastic but the conclusion that it was a spike was reached a while ago.

Andrew,
The moss was fine but it was breaking down faster than I anticipated but I put charcoal in it and lava rock in the bottom for drainage.

But if you look at the fourth picture. The media consists of lava rock and Styrofoam peanuts for drainage, orchidata for the majority in the middle, and sphagnum moss at the top as a dressing to keep some moisture in.

I kept it above 55 at night or tried as this was the coldest year in Georgia. The greenhouse is usually at 55 or warmer but with the cold it went down to the upper 40s at night. And one time it went down to 35 with the space heater on max, when outside was 7 degrees. This is not recommended.

Tell me how you are growing it and a picture can help so I can help you out here. Implement a technique or change in culture might be needed but hope you respond back soon.

Thanks for rely
My medium is mixture of coconut chunks and charcoal in a clay pot, very open mix. I get fat bulbs for the last two years but no flower.
Grown next to my cattleyas out side here. Winter down to about 50. My cattleyas flower on queue every year, I suspect the plant isn't quite big enough
Will follow with picture in a few days
