I have a Bifrenaria harrisoniae I got from an auction last year in July. I repotted it into some spagnum moss and charcoal but might have to repot it again this year into some orchiata soon. Your thoughts and comments on this lovely species?
which is a from a nursery in Brazil Since then i put in lava rock. I put it in high light and watered it every day. It grew to four Pseudobulbs over the summer they look healthy but small. The roots are good so I have hope. Over the winter, I misted when the humidity was low and watered once per week.
Sorry for the long wait, been stuck in school away from my orchids. School is evil!!!
I did not give it a winter rest this year as I wanted it to grow some more roots because it was virtually rooless when I won it in the auction. But I am going to move it into some spagnum moss and orchidata this repotting season.
The plant looks good. I grow my Bifrenarias in a bark mix. The summer is the growing season with water and fertilizer, lots of fresh air and bright light. Temps can be warm.
Wintertime is the rest period, cool but not completely dry.

Hi. I can't say I am experienced in bifrenerias but there couple of things you need to make sure to get the best result. They like to be pot bound and once they are settled they don't want to be disturbed. I think you overpotted the plant. I would also chose medium that would dry out easy . High nitrogen fertilizer when the new shoot growing. Then switch to high potash one. Cut watering the plant in December. Keep somewhere cool / moist and give just enough water that prevents the psuedobubls from shrivelling until the new growths starts.I think it is a bit of a difficult plant cos I have had that for 5 years and it only bloomed once. Good luck
