Maxillaria (Brasiliorchis) chrysantha
This plant was given to me for identification before it is going to be exhibited. It belongs to a group of epiphytic Maxillarias native to southeastern Brazil, which were transferred in 2007 into a separate genus named Brasiliorchis. The 'purple colored column' (porphyro=purple, stele=column) motivated Rchb.f. to name it porphyrostele, but two years earlier Barb.Rodr. have described a Maxillaria chrysantha (=golden flowered) . Some taxonomists claim that both are distinct species, but I think it is another proof of the rivalry between the two schools.
Anyway it is an easy growing floriferous plant, which can be grown into a showy specimen.
