I know. We live where it is normally quite breezy, too. Did you ask Porters? That is who I was going to ask. I just love their zygos. I plan to get another one this year.

I didn't ask Porter's but I see they have a really nice zygo selection on their website, mostly bred by them !! Impressive.

I thought I would post a photo of the roots of one of the seedlings. I have never seen so many roots on a young plant and that pot is almost filled. In the wild the species grows on/in cracks in granite and that probably explains why the root system is so extensive.

update. These have all done well, sort of. Yes - because they have all been repotted into bigger pots and there is lots of new growth. No - because all were attacked by the dreaded zygo black spot/streak.
This is an interesting species to me, primarily because of its growth habit. It doesn't just produce 1 new pbulb per pbulb, but multiple and one growing out underneath the other. I have one with 3 new pbulbs from a single pbulb ! Its also a small zygo. Those of you with the standard-sized zygo will appreciate that !
I am putting my head on the block and predicting that I should have blooms within 6-9 months, and hopefully 2 spikes per pbulb

Spiking - at 13 months from deflasking !
On such a small plant too - in the background, a caladium leaf. Only noticed it this morning, on one of the smaller seedlings which makes this even more surprising.

Oh my goodness that's awesome!!! Great job! It'll be cool to see how the flowers come out and if any other seedlings spike.

Did you ever snap some pics of this when it bloomed? And how are the rest doing?

Also I see you said they like cool temps. Do they like the rather bright light that a lot of Zygos do? Got one at a recent show.

unfortunately the stem rotted...........none of the others spiked.
They do prefer it cooler and I don't have the space in my basement ! I have a couple in a south-facing shaded window that are doing well, so I would say that brighter light is not an issue.
Hope yours does well.
BTW - there is a show this weekend at Chicago Botanic Gardens - you should come.

Going to try and make it.

Sorry to hear about the stem rotting, that had to be a huge disappointment.

Mine has one mature pbulb, then four growths about 5-6 inches yet to mature and one smaller new growth. I never realized just how much smaller these are than most other Zygos, it's wonderful!!
