Zygopetalum Alan Greatwood
I got this in December 2011 and this is the first time blooming for me.
I am posting this picture, and will update, to show that this hybrid doesn't open all blooms simultaneously ( as happened with someone else's zygo ) and to show 6 blooms - a lot of my different grexes only have 5.

most zygo grexes have ( or eventually get ) those black spots. Its harmless. Only my zygo Louisendorff seems immune.
I think they put a lot of people off buying zygos in general - which is unfortunate as they have an unbelievable scent and are very easy to grow if you can supply dappled shade.
This grex is particularly susceptible to spotting - that along with difficulty in flowering is probably why its been hardly used in crosses. The 6 blooms are a plus tho !

Yep, that's mine that opens them all the same day. It has another flower stem coming out, so I'll be curious to see if that one does the same thing. Yours looks great! I just went to look at mine to see if it had black spots, none of those, just a few blemishes from being outside and being moved a few hundred miles south to San Diego this past summer.

this is co-potted with another zygo grex ( blue blazes x rhein harlequin ) - and this grex does have spots, but not as many. Its also about to bloom and I will post these separately as they are my current favourite.
- and yes, snow in the background. We have had quite a bit overnight
- and yes, these plants can get big ! I got this one in Dec 11 too and flowers regularly

Nice! Looks as though you will soon have a show! I really enjoy the zygos. My first was a louisendorf that was barely fragrant but was very vigorous and in bloom four times a year. I rehomed it when I found my Kiwi. I also have a blue-blazes/mackayi cross so that should be a good one for fragrance once it is blooming size.
