OMG they're magnificent! My 2 new acquisitions are Agnx.Eva's Blue Amazon "Kalapana" in bloom but the one in question is Zns.Cynosure 'Alba' from Kalapana which finished bloom but a tall plant in a pot ~3". I assume now would be the time to repot or wait? What size would you go up to? Your info on OB is very much appreciated and send more pix!

Interesting for this to show up again... I am moving schtuff around, and found two more blooming "branches" on my NOID. It just keeps on keeping on.
Mine's in S/H, for a couple of years. Mostly benign neglect culture. Truly, 'tis a very easy one.

oooh, the blue flowers and fragrant! That is something I would enjoy having. You said they are small. How small is small? I am out of space. I bought a Zglm. Luisendorf 'Rhein Clown' in bud. The flowers opened half way, dried and turned brown around the edges and stayed that way. I cut the spike off yesterday. Your blue flowers really do tempt me. Good growing!

Your mathina cross is not registered, but would go under the genus Alantuckerara if it was. The genus is named after R Tucker in New Zealand who registered about 75 zygo crosses in the 1990's.
My zygos all go outdoors next month, hanging in trees, under shrubs. They love it and generally I don't have to water ! I use dynamite extended fertiliser that I sprinkle on the top layer of bark.

Sorry I didn't reply to this way back when but how is your Zygonisia doing now? When you say they're hanging from trees exactly what do you mean? I've been trying to get a better grip on watering these hybrids more appropriately. My Alantuckerara as you referred to it above has a new growth forming a bulb now though it never flowered. Meanwhile there's a new growth coming off it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it might yet spike but I think I've neglected watering and fertilizing after all the rain we had early on. My Zygolum on the other hand with 3 new growths seems the biggest stopped around 5", then the 2nd has grown fast to 3" and the littlest has grown much at all passed a quarter-half inch. Overall its roots look good I just wonder why the new growths are seemingly stunted.
Not to hijack the thread but very interested in your successes with your hybrid. The Zygolum likes bright light, well so it seems, maybe it's been too bright thus the stunting. The other does not like it so bright. So two very different plants...
But got a Zygonisia Cynosure 'Blue Birds' today!! It had ants in it!!! So I repotted it. Small plant, one genuine bulb and a small, couple inch new growth.

a couple of you asked questions, apologies for late reply
- these can take repotting at any time. I am going to have to repot cynosure in a month or 2 once I have harvested the remaining 2 pods
- I hang them under trees/shrubs using wire pot hangers. These are available from nurseries and are cheap. They are not protected from rain.
- my 2 zygos ( Alan Greatwood and Blue Blazes x Rhein Harlequin ) are currently in bud. These get early morning and late afternoon filtered sun. These are in a 12in pot placed under a tree.
- my Louisendorf was attacked by some sort of fungal infection and almost died. It has 5 new growths, but I hope it will make it...
- I have 2 flasks of my own cross that I have yet to deflask. The objective is to get more compact plants with a resistance to black spot - the black spot that attacks most zygos relentlessly. In fact I lost most of my other flasks of louisendorf cross to this black spot. The cross was a dud - and I believe this susceptibility is genetically enhanced...or potentially eliminated. Cynosure itself has quite a resistance, hence my use in a breeding programme.
- all outdoors plants get watered 1x per week ( if it doesn't rain ) and have a teaspoon of bloodmeal roughly every 2 months, together with dynagro extended release fertiliser granules.
meant to add that my cynosure seems to be in a dormant phase - no signs of new growth at all.

Thanks for the info. I've recently picked up some net baskets and am trying to decide who should be potted in them. I've got a bunch of mini Catts I'm going to put in most of them. I think I've been underwatering my Zygos so I don't know if these net pots would be good for my watering habits.
Sorry to hear about your cross and Louisendorf. Hope it makes it!

issue with net pots is that when you come to repot you end up destroying roots that have grown through the netting...

since my posting of 26 July, I have noticed 3 new growths ! And that is the really interesting part !
1 growth is where I would expect it - starting from the latest pbulb. The other 2 are from much older pbulbs. This is the only orchid that I know of that has spontaneously started new growths from older growths that haven't been disturbed/detached in any way.
This plant is native to the Amazon ( one parent ) and apparently at times is submerged completely by floodwaters. It grows on river banks and tree trunks that extend over the water. It must be "secure" in its growth spot - not likely to be washed away.
I am obviously speculating - but because the biggest new growth is over the pot and considering its natural habitat, the plant "smartly" knows that any further growth in that direction is "risky" ( no media ) and has therefore initiated other growths into available media. This seems a reasonable and logical explanation !
I will post photos soon. This plant continues to amaze me. Its held lots of seed capsules, has had multiple bloom stems - 4 from one pbulb......and now this ! I am definitely going to self it the next bloom cycle and produce more of this hybrid. To me its really unique !
