one of my favourites because its a reliable and spectacular bloomer. Faint fragrance - but just at certain times.

THIRD spike !
I found another spike ! This is the 3rd spike from 1 bulb, and all 3 are on the same side. Has anyone else had this happen ? I was ecstatic to get 2....now 3 !
As an aside - I always read about how blooming and carrying seed pods drains the energy of a plant. This plant has 2 seedpods, 2 more developing and now a third spike. Either this genus is the exception to the rule, or under good cultural conditions, it can be done !

This is impressive!!! So how often are you watering these days? And you say you alternate fertilizers with every watering, may I ask what fertilizer ratios your use and does this mean you're watering just once a week?
I don't have the same plant but I got my first Zygo about a month ago - Zygolum Rhein Moonlight - and another a couple days ago - Zygopetalum Adelaide Meadows 'Brabum' x Ptpm. Mathina 'Elizabeth'.
The first suffered some damage in transit but still gave me one bloom (bought in spike/bud). I have seen about 3 small new growths.
The second has 4 pbulbs and another growth that has not yet formed a bulb, which from my understanding means that it will still throw a spike (keeping my fingers crossed).
Just wondering how you're achieving such excellent results, maybe I can get on the right train with these guys. :-D

I can't count. I checked again and there are FOUR spikes on the one pseudobulb. Updated photo :
I checked on your cross. Cultivation details are as follows - from the Baker's :
"(Propetalum Mathina x Zygoneria Adelaide Meadows) is composed of species of which 96% take cool temperatures and 96% take warm temperatures. Grow this hybrid in cool to warm conditions, or 58°F to 75°F at night. 40%-70% humidity. Water heavily during growth; Water just as medium starts to dry. Do not water during the winter if plant loses its leaves (deciduous). Commonly grown in pots. Fertilize heavily when actively growing. Common media: fine fir bark, ammended with perlite."
I fertilise weakly, weekly and I do water only 1x per week. I don't measure, but maybe a teaspoon per 2 gallons...
I have a couple of different zygos - I find the intergenerics more difficult to grow. As I said I had alba/white forms of this intergeneric and all died. Yet this one does so well ! I have a Zygo Kuitpo that is also extremely difficult. Good Luck with yours.

Wow, thank you for all that information! I can't believe yours has 4 spikes now, beyond impressive! My Zygolum has been in a south facing window that is becoming more shady although they do get some direct light. I try to keep it a bit away from the direct light. And like I said the other Zygopetalum I just got. I see you called it Zygoneria?? Are you talking about Baker's the seller btw?
Thanks!

the data is from OrchidWiz and they extract their data from the Bakers:
Orchid Culture -- Charles and Margaret Baker
Your mathina cross is not registered, but would go under the genus Alantuckerara if it was. The genus is named after R Tucker in New Zealand who registered about 75 zygo crosses in the 1990's.
My zygos all go outdoors next month, hanging in trees, under shrubs. They love it and generally I don't have to water ! I use dynamite extended fertiliser that I sprinkle on the top layer of bark.
