Peristeria elata (Dove Orchid)
Are you trying to corner the market on Peristeria Pasojanice? LOL. I bought my plant from Kawamoto Orchids too. Very happy with their service. Andy's Orchids is also a very nice vendor. I got to meet Andy at the Midamerica Orchid show this past October in Dayton, OH. He is a very nice person. You'll get follow up calls from Harry to see how your Peristeria is doing. I think Harry is a relative of Andy's. Keep track of both of these vendors as they always come up with new plants to entice you!

Hi Matt, I think I am working toward that goal! Harry is Andy's brother and the only reason I know is that I asked. Here, would you believe another woman was chomping at the bit for this plant also but I had "first dibs" on it. Glad I did.

Thanks for the sibling information Pasojanice. I'm really happy with my Peristeria. It has been growing great leaves. I can't wait for Spring when it blooms.

Mine is mad at me. BUT IT IS GROWING 2 NEW BULBS! So I will keep an eye on it. My leaves have almost all died off as well. But again we shall see.

Oh Matt, forgot to say that this has 4 or 5 bulbs in it! I was pleasantly surprised...to say the least.
Kindrag, I used to live in Texas, in El Paso and loved it. I taught there and had 1 orchid! LOLOL My, how things have changed. LOLOL

Hi Kindrag, know what you mean with "huddled". When we lived in El Paso, we had a big snowstorm and this was back in the 80s. Oh my, but I had mine just comfy also! LOL It's cold here and I have a heater and humidifier in the sunroom with them.

The flowers on your plant are quite handsome, Bud (sorry, thought I mentioned that in my first post, but when I went back to re-read it I noticed that I just mentioned the part about it being available at Hausermann's).
This is actually a hardier species than one might assume (being native to tropical Panama). I give it a dryish winter rest, lots of sun during the winter, and the night temps regularly drop down to the high 40s/low 50s in my growing area without the plant displaying any problems. It flowers every summer, but I need to figure out some way to keep the blooms from becoming blemished; they last a long time and are wonderfully fragrant, but they also develop unsightly black spots after being open for a few days. I'm assuming it's from the high summer humidity, so maybe I'll just bring it indoors next summer and stick it under a ceiling fan while it's in bloom.
Congratulations on your flowers, Bud--and to everyone else who's gotten one of these beauties recently.

Congrats on the Peristeria bloom. You mentioned that it needs partial winter rest yet I've got mine at this time of the year producing 3 new growths. Mine is either running ahead or behind but I'm just happy that it's growing.

THANK YOU!!!!
I always put my spiking orchids indoors to avoid bug sucking on it or any change in humidity that will blast or brown the petals. My electric humidifier with an oscillating fan is enough to sustain the buds to open nicely.

Thank You, Rolando!
You have a happy healthy plant and it is giving you new growths....as soon as the bulb matures you will get a spike late summer.
Start your winter rest on the 22 of December and by Valentines day end the winter rest and start water and fertilizer on this plant. If you are watering this every week then just water it every other week on the 22nd....hold the fertilizer until feb. 14th
