I love it when tulips flower in July. This one has much smaller flowers than clowesii.

Very nice. How much heat will these tolerate in the summer?

We have had rare days with a temperature of nearly 38°C for about 10 hours. This was a bad thing even if my Anguloas, who stand under the bench, remained without visible signs of damage. Daytime temperature should not be higher than 30°C, and fresh cool air in the night is preferred.

Not for our climate then. We are at 36 C as I write this, and that is far from the worst we see at this time of year. Even under the tables I would fear for them. Lovely, elegant flowers.

The climate they have along the coast, touched by the Gulf stream, for example in England / Ireland, where Rhododendrons grow like weed, is more suitable for these Andean mountaineers. To compensate for climatic inconveniences is one of the main challences for local orchid growers here.

Forgot to mention the scent, which is like resin (or like a retsina, if you like Greek food).
