Maxillaria schunkeana question Male
Default Maxillaria schunkeana question

Hello, friends!
What can be the reason for my Maxillaria to dry out buds ready to blossom out? This autumn it has produced several buds, and always the same story: when it was about 1-2 cm, it just began slowly to dry out...

Southern window of northern hemisphere (of course, with good sun protection), regular watering... seemed to me be OK.

Is it possible to be a virus disease sign? Or adaptation (I have bought this plant this spring)

Thank you!

Not necessarily viral. Check roots first before assuming the problem was caused by a disease. Living Max schunkeana roots look like dead roots, so don't be fooled. Look for brown or purple roots with yellow-green tips.

If the roots are fine, then it could be humidity related.

If the humidity is around 60% - 80%, at any given point during the day, then it would be an issue of the plant adjusting.

Next year may produce better blooming results. They adjust quickly!

Good luck.
