Mormolyca ringens
This orchid is a funky beauty found in the forest of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica at elevations of 0 to 1400 meter
I am growing this in a well drain mix of fine bark, charcoal, sponge rock and tree fern shards. I give it intermediate to warm conditions with moderate light on the east facing window of my kitchen. I water it every other day keeping it evenly moist but not wet. This plant needs semi-dry rest through the winter months so I give it water every other week with no fertilizer.
The bulb and leaf is a foot long as adult. The 12" long inflorescence produces a single, yellow with red striped, one inch tall, long-lasting flower. Although this species peak blooming is summer, it frequently throws off season flowers.

Very nice! I bought one of these last August. It's been growing like a weed but still no flowers. I have it in a north facing window under supplemental t4's. It's planted in just sphagnum moss. Do you have any other growing tips so I can have some awesome flowers too? Maybe I just need to be patient . Thanks for posting!

Thank You, Julie !
If its growing like weeds and its giving you new bulbs; you are doing something right....then all you need to do is patiently wait for bulbs to mature and it will give you flowers by the end of summer....
the warmer months is time to grow roots and leaves....
