I'm going to have to repot mine, this year I put it in a south window and I just can't keep up with the watering! Not even summer yet but I'm watering every 2 days. Now it's in straight bark, but I'm thinking of adding in lots of sphag, or doing S/H.
How did you time it for repotting in S/H?

I put it atop the sh...no planting or anything...it just rested on the very top of the medium and I watered it a lot. Now it doesn't move from its spot, because it grew its dead looking roots into the sh with no prompting from me! It really was that simple.

That's incredible how quickly it settled in. I always hate unpotting it, those dead looking roots freak me out even though I should know better by now.

I haven't read enough about this plants environment...where do they live naturally? I watered mine every day, misted it as often if not more...you can tell the plant dried out quickly but I think that's just the look of it! I want to move it outside since it apparently needs loads of sun but our nights are still too cold. Of course, all of my blooming plants that need a cool period to bloom are now outside! All of my plants bloom out of season because of my highland environment!
Here's a pic of it. Glass base with a hole drilled to provide drainage and a reservoir. I planted it this way so that when outside, the wind doesn't batter it to death and dry it out. It also helps it keep warm.

According to Orchidwiz, they grow in Mexico and central america. They are found in rainforests, tropical semi-deciduous forests, and sometimes ravines of warm oak forests. Usually at lower elevations. Humidity around 80% most of the time.
As for watering they recommend keeping them moist with only slight drying out allowed between waterings while they are actively growing.

Ravines makes sense: might be quite exposed on steep banks, giving light, and sometimes get flooding.
