Default Maxillaria picta

2nd blooming. I received this as a small established seedling around 10 years ago from Clackamas-Orchids.

This is a spectacular specimen with multiple flowers!

The scent is sweet as honey and fairly potent.

Has been growing great for many, many years.

Ooo! That's fabulous! How awesome that you have grown it from a seedling to this size!

Great blooming, Philip! I'm just starting to dabble a little in this genus, this one looks well worth growing.

Picta is currently top of my want list, so I've very envious of that!

You said this is second blooming - is it a bit reluctant to bloom?

It's beautiful, and great job growing it, it's a stunning specimen. We tried to have this one on the list for the current member project, but I don't remember why it didn't make the list.
The fragrance sounds nice, now I want one too!

Wow! What a great show of flowers! 10 years from seedling - this is very inspiring.

I love the little freckles.

I think it was lack of sellers, or sellers at the right price.

No, it blooms quite freely, unlike Max tenuifolia. This is the second time blooming because it apparently takes a while for a tiny little seedling to get to blooming size!

When I said I got it as a small sized established seedling, I meant it. When I received this one, it was only anywhere around 1" tall, maybe 1 1/2" tall, (somewhere around 3 cm tall).

It is a very easy plant to grow! It is very difficult to over water. It's not a slow grower, which many people will thoroughly appreciate. It can grow in a variety of potting media. It can handle a lot of strong lighting. The lighting is like that for Vandas.

Temperature tolerant. I've grown this outdoors all its life, all year round - 36 F - 100 F.

In nature it is a lithophyte, possibly an epiphyte on occasion.

Simple, simple, simple. No complicated twists or turns to grow. Perfect for a beginner.

I've grown it in bark just fine. I've grown it in straight up moss just fine. I've grown it in a mixture of SuperSphag and perlite just fine. I'm currently growing it in a mixture of SuperSphag and pumice. I think it can even grow in straight up pumice! I've grown it in an opaque plastic pot. I currently have it in a clear plastic pot. It simply does not matter! If it is healthy, it will find a way to grow!!!

I've dropped it and injured a few of the pseudobulbs a couple times, and it doesn't matter. It's been through wind storms and rain storms, no problems!

This one is a soldier!
