One other thing I forgot to mention...
I know it has no bearing on cultivation, but it is a nice thing to know.
If you guys haven't guessed it already, Max. picta is bee pollinated. It doesn't matter if it's a honeybee or a Euglossine bee (the true pollinator), they will be pollinated by either one. Once the honeybees figure out it's a dud, they will stop visiting it though.
Although...
I have seen on the rare occasion some Euglossine bees here...
I don't think this species self pollinates very well. I had some mysterious little helpers pollinate the flowers for me, (I think they were honeybees), and the pods never made it to maturity.
