Questions on Zygopetalum culture ... and Where do you find them?

Zygopetalums were always one orchid that I felt instantly drawn to years ago .... it was the striking purple that I was mesmerized by.....but got side-stepped and moved into Slipper orchids...

Now my interest has peaked again, and just saw a gorgeous Zygopetalum at Trader Joes, and now decided I would like to add a plant (or two) to my collection...

But, I am not finding alot of clear and concise cultural information around, and I can't find any Vendors who are Selling Zygopetalum.

So can anyone help me out here ?

I have 5 different types. Do a search on "zygo" to get better results. Lot of intergenerics - take a look at zygonisia cyonosure as an example

- easy to grow in a south-facing window. High light a necessity.
- no artificial light ( if using natural ) to disturb the flower initiation ( day vs night length ). Flower 2x per year with right conditions.
- temps to around 58f low. I have mine in an unheated bedroom overnight for Winter.
- water trays for improved humidity
- don't allow to dry out. Soil mix is a personal preference but I have one that is doing well in sphag.
I can recommend zygo loiusendorff, really nice looking plant and with great fragrant flowers.

Zygos are not especially rare. Actually, just about every vendor I know has some. If you're looking for some interesting hybrids, I'd recommend looking at Porter's Orchids or Orchids of Los Osos. If you want species, Andy's is the way to go (if the one you want isn't on their website, give them a call. They may just have it in their nursery).

Well, not necessarily. I've had them do just fine in medium light, too. The most most adaptable Zygos are the intergenerics.

Well, if it's hybrids that you seek, take a look at the other two vendors I listed.

Usually, most online vendors have a hybrid or two.
