Lycaste mattogrossensis syn. macrobulbon
More than a decade ago I was enchanted by this Brazilian beauty, who bloomed for a friend. More than nine years ago I got a division. The plant grew well, but I cannot remember that I have seen the bright golden flowers on my plant again. So let me share my joy now.
According with Oakeley and his fantastic book, Lycaste mattogrossensis is synonym to Lycaste macrobulbon, a species that is also recorded from Colombia and Central America, although the population in Brazil lives far away from its close allies.
And the scent: There is one, that reminds me of yarrow (Achillea millefolium), when your nose is very close to the flowers in the morning. But it is not one that fills the room.
